I arrived in Mexico last night. Another student and I are staying at the same house. Our host mother met us at the airport. She is a lively, talkative lady with a very sweet disposition. She only speaks Spanish to us so it is really making me work on my Spanish! I did discover something about being immersed in a culture that uses a different language. It is mentally exhausting. My brain is constantly trying to sort out conversations and figure out how to answer questions. It gives me a better understanding of what English language learners go through. Part way through today, I started mentally checking out because I was exhausted!
This morning after breakfast, we took the bus to see where the university was. Then we walked to the mall and looked around. It had several stores that are similar to the ones at home. We ate lunch in the food court. I tried a taco arabe. It was a flour tortilla with shredded meat and lime juice. It was very good.
The weather is perfect. Not to cool and not too hot. There isn’t air-condition in the house but all the windows are open which causes a nice breeze through the house.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a full day so I will post again tomorrow night.
